if you want me, i’ll be in the car

September 10, 2007

I swear, I am so over TypePad. I just lost a very long entry. This. Happens. All. Of. The. Time. Why do I pay for this???

Ok, where were we?

So I have had a very bad cold for a while now. I picked it up when I was in NYC Labor Day Weekend. As a result, I am currently accepting all forms of healing modulaties: white light, pranic breathing, ear candling, straight-up prayer, and my favorite, hands-on healing.

It’s Day 8 and I am officially Tired Of Being Sick.

On Wednesday, I went to get a cortisone shot and some antibiotics so I could try to keep my performance date the next night at Blake’s on the Park. I struggled through my long roster of songs — some new, some old, some little-known covers. The Blake’s peeps treated my like a King (queen?) and all my peeps came out to say hello. Croaky singing nonewithstanding, it’s always good to play in front of a crowd. I once heard it’s the equivelent of 25 practices. I kind of think that’s true. Playing in front of an audience, even one that is more interested in procuring a cocktail and exchanging gossip than listening, is beneficial.

Here’s what  I played — more pics to come!

2. Featured Artist of the Month

I’m the Featured Artist of the Month for April over at the Homopod
Radio podcast. I love this podcast, so it’s quite fun that this
happened. There are two shows you can listen to online or on your mp3
player.

The first features a few songs from my CD, “Forever’s Not As Long As It
Used To Be,” then a little bit of commentary. The second features more
songs, including the unreleased demo of the title track of my next
studio CD (2008?), “Never Regret The Nights.” It’s a sort of sneak
peek, if you will. The second podcast also features an interview with
me, and I blather on about various topics. I’m sure you don’t want to
miss THAT!! :-)

3. “Francis” to be featured on compilation

The funloving Woobie Bear will be featuring “Francis” on Vol. II of his
very popular G CD series. More to come on this, but we (me + me) love
the exposure for my little independent CD.

4. What I’m loving…

  My girl Yoki’s blog: http://justyoking.blogspot.com/

Google Reader: Buh-bye Bloglines

Missy Higgins’ new single “Steer”: www.myspace.com/missyhiggins

DVD: “Come Early Morning” starring Ashley Judd. This is a very
subtle, internal movie, but I was watching and folding clothes in
tears. I just love Ashley Judd. Reminded me of that 90s indie gem “Ruby
in Paradise,” also starring her. Check it out if you like movies where
you’re not sure if anything is happening. I loved it.

a triangle tried to squeeze through a circle

March 18, 2005

Well my show is tonight and if everyone comes who says they are coming, it should be a packed house. I’m trying to stave off the nerves….I’m holding fast to the title of my first blog "when pianos try to be guitars" — a line that comes from one of my fave tori tracks, "Northern Lad."

He don’t show much these days / It gets so f*cking cold
I loved his secret places / But I can’t go anymore
You change like sugar cane / Says my northern lad
I guess you go too far / When pianos try to be guitars

Reminds me of JC, who came through in the end, with a beautiful card and champagne. i hope he knows that i appreciate it muchly…..stacey sent cds, too….and some other packages were waiting for me last night when i finally made it home. So much so, the concierge thought it was my birthday. That was cute.  I also ran into a friend of a friend at dinner with MS…and he told me my friend NayNay was coming in from New Orleans and will be at the show.  I’ll be so happy to see him!

there was a review in yesterday’s creative loafing….

i feel all random today but am blown away by the thoughtfulness and kindness of the people in my life.  Everything’s clicking and I can’t wait to read magazines and lollygag in the next coupla weeks.

See you tonight….
